The hotly-contested advertising contract for cellular giant MTN has been awarded to Jupiter Drawing Room, according to an MTN press statement.

The contract covers both brand and advertising for SA, commencing in February 2007. Optimum Media Direction retains the media-buying contract for MTN Group and MTN SA.

Santie Botha, MTN Group chief marketing officer, says the cellular operator is "very excited about having the team from Jupiter on board."

"I'm confident that they are best suited to support the MTN Group's marketing team to strategically position us as a clearly differentiated global brand in relevant stakeholder markets internationally.

"I am also convinced that they have the creative drive to strengthen our brand, especially in the competitive South African market."

The MTN Group's operations in 21 countries throughout Africa and the Middle East have a total subscriber base of over 34 million.
