KaChing has added Thrupps Illovo Centre and The Pavilion to the list of shopping centres the parking service can be used.

Following the launch of KaChing at three shopping centres in Johannesburg, the cashless and ticketless parking app is now live at The Pavilion in Durban.

KaChing announced its app is now available at two more shopping centres in SA.

"From today, KaChing is live at Thrupps Illovo Centre in Johannesburg and The Pavilion in Durban," says a statement.

KaChing uses licence plate recognition (LPR) technology to open the boom when a user arrives at and leaves the shopping centre. It then automatically deducts the parking fee from the user's credit card or prepaid account upon exiting.

The LPR technology captures photographic video or still images of licence plates. These are processed by a series of algorithms that provide an alphanumeric conversion, which is compared to KaChing's database of registered users.

Launched on a commercial pilot basis in 2015, the KaChing parking service is already available at Melrose Arch, Campus Square and Morningside shopping centres.

The KaChing parking app can be downloaded free from the Apple iStore and Google Play Store. Users can register with a name, licence plate number and payment details.
