Kalahari.net expands online shopping with Tiscali World Online

Kalahari.net has entered into an affiliate partnership with Tiscali World Online, offering the ISP`s portal users easy access to the online retailer`s extensive range of books, music, DVDs, videos, pc and playstation games, computerware and wine.

The referral agreement with Tiscali World Online, which provides a link from the ISP`s portal shopping and other channels to Kalahari.net, gives Tiscali World Online users quick access to the e-tailer`s site.

"As an online retailer, our affiliation with Tiscali World Online allows both parties to leverage their strong brands and make the most of their customer relationships," says Gary Hatfield, marketing manager at Kalahari.net. "It also gives Kalahari.net major exposure on one of the biggest portals in SA. Tiscali World Online offers access to an unlimited range of online services, making it a highly attractive option for users who can access all they need through one portal."

Graeme Victor, Tiscali World Online MD, says the ISP`s portal shopping channel exposes users to a variety of online retailers, including Edgars, NetFlorist and Bidorbuy. "Adding Kalahari.net to the range of online stores forms part of our strategy to offer our users access to the best and most efficient products and services in the country."

Under the terms of the partnership, Tiscali World Online and Kalahari.net also offer special prices to users and run targeted product promotions directed at the ISP`s user base. "We are already seeing the benefits of the partnership in revenue terms in the first month," says Victor.

He adds that Kalahari.net`s strong branding, its established online presence and expertise in business-to-consumer e-commerce was a major factor in the decision to partner.

Hatfield says that major growth is expected in the South African online retail market. This is in line with a report by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), which predicts that e-tailing sales will soar to $168 billion by 2005, up from $34 million in 2001. BCG also predicts success for pure-play e-tailers that have already established large-scale businesses, a category which includes companies like Kalahari.net.
