Kaspersky Lab has opened its first office in the Middle East as a part of its international expansion strategy, and seeks to establish itself in what it calls the most competitive regional market in IT.

A statement from Kaspersky Lab says the Middle East office is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and will provide operational management and sales support for its products in the region.

The secure content management solutions developer is adamant the move will create a greater awareness of its products in 20 Middle Eastern markets.

“Our Dubai base will be instrumental in our ambitious Middle East growth strategy as we aspire to be among the top three anti-virus companies in the market in terms of revenue by 2010, while improving our presence in both consumer and corporate segments,” says Kaspersky Lab CEO and co-founder Eugene Kaspersky.

There should be a strong emphasis on IT infrastructure investment in the region in order to gain a competitive-edge over the West during the economic downturn, he adds.

“With an impeccable reputation for top-of-the-line quality products, and a growth rate of 400% in the Middle East compared to 2007, Kaspersky Lab is well positioned to consolidate its business in areas of slow economic outlook, while maximising revenue in the burgeoning Gulf Cooperation Council,” Kaspersky says.

The incumbent for the Middle East office, Tarek Kuzbari, says the UAE was chosen as the Middle Eastern headquarters because of its leadership in IT infrastructure and ICT readiness, and its allure for talented workers from around the world.
