Kelvin Power Station selects MAXIMO

MAXIMO to play key role in Kelvin`s maintenance optimisation initiative
Johannesburg, 05 Jul 2001

MST (Maintenance System Technology), the leading provider of solutions that power the industrial supply chain for Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) materials, has announced that Kelvin Power Station, a 700-megawatt power plant located in Kempton Park, has selected MAXIMO for its work control system.

The Kelvin agreement was secured in MST``s quarter ended 31 March. Kelvin Power Station reviewed several maintenance systems before deciding on MAXIMO, and found MAXIMO to be the most flexible and complete alternative available. Kelvin Power Station selected MAXIMO to reduce its reliance on existing legacy systems and created an integrated work control system. Using MAXIMO, Kelvin Power Station plans to improve safety, performance, and reduce operations and maintenance costs while lowering its total cost of ownership in IT systems.

"Kelvin Power Station is committed to having a world-class maintenance programme," said Stefan van Sittert, Chief Engineer, Maintenance, Kelvin Power Station. "Implementing MAXIMO will meet our primary goal of simplifying our work control process while providing us with a cost-effective solution in this competitive marketplace."

"The addition of Kelvin Power Station to our growing list of clients points to MAXIMO`s success in highly regulated, competitive and mission critical environments," commented Hannes Snyman, Executive Account Manager MST. "We look forward to working with Kelvin Power Station as they continue to achieve their goal of world-class performance."

The implementation was done by an MST implementation partner, Khulisa Management & Engineering (KME). A minimum customisation/configuration implementation approach was followed to address Kelvin`s maintenance and inventory management system requirements. This allowed for an accelerated time-to-benefit implementation and eliminated expenditure on non-core requirements and functionality.

The implementation of the Maximo system has resulted in a significant improvement on the following areas, commented George Tshesane, Project Manager KME. "Maintenance planning - Kelvin now have a comprehensive set of PMs and are able to do proper, detailed planning of maintenance work, Tracking and reporting of labour costs for specific equipment and locations, Failure reporting - work order feedback can now be done in more detail by stating the nature of work, cause of failure and component at fault, and Reports - a range of reports is now available to assist in tracking and managing jobs, reporting on maintenance costs, etc."

Danie van Vuuren, MST Sales Manager for Africa says: "specifically in asset-centric organisations, where day to day asset management is directly linked to the bottom line and cost avoidance crucial to improved performance, does the MAXIMO best-of-breed EAM (Enterprise Asset Management System) deliver a superior advantage. It is only by becoming smarter and extracting hidden profits from the organisation, that organisations will maintain the competitive-edge and reach a state of operational excellence."
