KID appoints O`Connell as COO

Johannesburg, 24 Nov 2004

Chris O`Connell has been appointed chief operating officer (COO) of business intelligence company Knowledge Integration Dynamics (KID). Formerly GM of KIDProfessional Services, O`Connell takes up a new position which was created to enable KID to focus on the expansion of its pure BI offering - which now encompasses the complete data lifecycle.

O`Connell will assume full operational responsibilities for the day-to-day activities of the company.

"Chris`s operational management expertise, commitment, track record and focus on broadening our consulting, sales and product support disciplines made him the logical candidate to head up our operations," says Aubrey van Aswegen, MD of KID. "We are confident that Chris will firm up our delivery capabilities by instituting more formalised process and project administration, thereby helping to propel KID to the next level in its growth."

O`Connell, who joined KID in 2002, has almost more than a decade`s experience in data administration and systems development. In 1998, he formed part of a team that started NVision, a company focused on providing Oracle solutions. He was jointly responsible for the rapid growth of the organisation, which eventually consisted of more than 120 consultants, and delivered in excess of R20 million revenue during its first year of operation.

At the end of 1999, he played a central role in the consolidation of the then NATH group to form Iocore. In his role as divisional director responsible for application development, he managed the delivery of turnkey bespoke development projects, as well as business intelligence solutions.

"KID has recognised that there is new focus in the market on the origination of data, prior to it arriving in the data warehouse or BI solution, and we have therefore extended our offering to encompass this total lifecycle," says O`Connell. "In addition to our traditional focus on all things BI, KID will also be offering data integration, data profiling, and data quality/data cleansing services to facilitate the new `prove that your numbers are true` requirement.

"Because we recognise that people are our biggest asset, I am aiming to further grow our staff`s abilities and competencies in the data arena, and to bring the same discipline that we have in our consulting business to the other aspects of the business, such as sales and support."

O`Connell says he will also focus on strengthening KID`s partnerships with its principal vendors which include Informatica, MicroStrategy and IBM.
