Knowledge Integration Dynamics (KID), one of South Africa's leading business intelligence (BI) and data warehousing companies, has invested in recruiter Cubic Blue, taking a 49% stake for an undisclosed sum.
The deal strengthens KID's ability to deliver specialised skills for its BI and data-related projects as well as to clients across industries.
“Although it's not our core business, we've been looking for a suitable HR partner for some time,” says Julian Field, marketing director at KID. “We use agencies fairly often to find unique skills for specific clients, but in many cases they charge high prices without adding much value.”
Cubic Blue offers customers a 12% recruitment fee and services the financial, IT, cellular, insurance, training, and engineering industries, and a spectrum of businesses and roles from advertising to medical, project management and assistants.
“One doesn't need to charge more in order to run a healthy business,” says Mike Royston, MD of Cubic Blue. “Our motive is different to many of the other recruiters. We are not a people mill. Servicing the relatively small and specialist IT market requires that companies in our industry forge ongoing positive relationships with the people we place and the businesses where we place them. That's why we place so much emphasis on our own employees.”
Cubic Blue's employees have completed a series of life skill courses based on understanding themselves first: who they are, what they want, and how they plan to achieve that. The company also hires specialists in the various industries it serves, and breeds skills and knowledge transfer between employees.
“It's a vital process to undergo if we are going to service our clients and candidates needs properly,” says Royston.
He adds that the business is looking to grow its own employee count of five specialists by two in the near future to deepen its already broad IT recruitment experience.
“Cubic Blue's experience and knowledge in the IT field is of particular interest to KID and our customers,” says Field. “We have used Cubic Blue in the past and the service they delivered was outstanding. Finding cashiers should be quite easy, but finding a chemist with IT consulting experience - which Cubic Blue has done for us in the past - is a different matter.”
