Knowledge Integration Dynamics (KID), South Africa's largest business intelligence (BI), data warehousing and data integration training academy, will be graduating its latest intake of students following the completion of their six-month BI Lifecycle course at the end of June.
The six students, all graduates with BCom IT degrees or similar, have undergone three months of intensive theory on the full BI life cycle - from data warehouse design and architecture, data quality, profiling and analysis to data integration, producing reports and identifying deliverables and key performance indicators.
With the theory as foundation, the students will undergo practical on-the-job experience, for the next three months, during placement at one of KID's more than 30 customers or technology partners. If successful as interns, the students will be given the opportunity to take up permanent positions with the companies on graduating from the BI Lifecycle course.
Once this, the fourth such course designed and implemented by KID, is complete, the academy will have trained more than 30 graduates for positions in the BI arena, meeting the needs of the chronic skills shortage affecting the BI and related markets.
KID training manager Charl Barnard says while the current economic slowdown presents a challenge, as there is reduced demand for resources with fewer new projects, the tighter budgets mean there is an emphasis on jobs needing to be done right first time.
“After graduating from our BI Lifecycle course, our students are equipped with a skill set that emphasises quality and reliability. The investment we make in our students is passed on to the companies that employ them, and because they have both theory and practical experience, they can focus on deliverables from the start,” says Barnard.
