AXiZ, the official distributor of Kingston products in SA, has announced that Kingston has released a one Gigabyte (GB) memory module supporting the Intel Profusion chipset for servers. Using 256 Megabit (Mbit) DRAM chip technology, Kingston designed a single module with the capacity of 1GB.
The Profusion chipset delivers the capability to expand up to eight Pentium III Xeon processors in a server, and it makes the Wintel platform competitive on scalability and performance to the Unix RISC platform.
"Kingston designed memory supporting the Profusion chipset to give its server memory customers the ability to upgrade their Profusion chipset-based systems to their full memory load of 16GB," says Ian Rayner, Kingston product manager at AXiZ. "Using the 256Mbit technology we have the ability to increase the capacity of a single module and offer 2GB kits (two 1GB modules). This allows for more efficient use of system socket space for future expansion."
Kingston currently supports the Compaq Proliant 8500, Compaq Proliant 8000, and Dell PowerEdge 8450, which each utilise the Profusion chipset, with 256 Megabyte (MB) up to 2GB kits (consisting of two, 1GB memory modules). Kingston also supports the IBM Netfinity 8500R with modules ranging from 128MB up to 512MB and soon to be released are modules supporting the Hewlett-Packard LXr 8500.
"As additional server manufacturers bring out systems based on the Intel Profusion chipset, Kingston expects to expand its module offering in response," says Rayner.
