Kingston announces low-profile 256MB PC100 SODIMM for notebook computers

Johannesburg, 23 Feb 2000

Design of lightweight notebook computers has taken another step forward with the release of Kingston Technology Company`s low-profile PCB 256MB PC100 SODIMM for notebooks. The new low-profile design is specially designed for use in the smaller memory compartments in today`s lightweight notebooks. Kingston`s new 256MB SODIMM enables users of new notebooks to surpass any current notebook upgrade options by doubling its capacity in most cases.

"Kingston`s new 256MB PC100 SODIMM will be available for top selling notebooks from companies such as Compaq, Dell, IBM and Toshiba," says Ian Rayner, Kingston product manager at AXiZ, sole distributor for Kingston in southern Africa. "Kingston`s first 256MB PC100 SODIMM solution will be for the Toshiba Tecra 8100, bringing total memory capacity up to 512MB."

Responding to customer demands for a higher memory upgrade solution to utilise more intensive applications without slowing down performance, Kingston thus offers the new 256MB PC100 SODIMM.

"By adding memory, notebook users will be more productive with less wait-time for applications to process," says Rayner. "Additionally, users will have the ability to run more intensive applications on portable products that historically could only be run at optimum performance levels on a desktop."

Since 1996, Kingston has been the official designer and manufacturer of Toshiba Noteworthy memory upgrades for Toshiba America Information Systems` entire line of notebook and desktop personal computers.

"Kingston`s commitment to the portable computing industry is to take the next step in offering customers a product that goes beyond the original system specifications," adds Rayner. "It is our goal to continue offering portable computing customers products that enable them to run their notebooks at an optimum level."
