Kingston Technology has formed a relationship with Intel Corporation to develop a line of Communication and Networking Riser (CNR) adapter products. Kingston, well known for its commitment to high quality memory, peripheral and storage products, will carry the same level of commitment to the CNR family.
CNR is an interface specification designed by Intel and key industry partners for ATX family motherboards. The new riser solution is designed to reduce the cost to PC-OEMs of implementing LAN, modem and audio subsystems in their PCs. The CNR Specification defines a scalable motherboard riser card interface that supports broadband, multichannel audio, V.90 analog modem, Home PNA, 10/100 Fast Ethernet-based networking as well as expandability for future technologies with a USB supported interface.
"Kingston`s CNR line is another example of Kingston`s commitment to provide our customers with quality products for the latest technology," says Ian Rayner, Kingston brand manager at local Kingston distributor, AXiZ. "Network Riser Cards will allow manufacturers to implement LAN, modem and/or audio subsystems at a lower cost than achieving the same functions with a proprietary method. A manufacturer is also given the flexibility of several motherboard customisations without having to stock multiple motherboard configurations.
Scheduled to ship in fourth quarter 2000, Kingston`s initial offering will include a 10/100TX plus four channel Audio Combination CNR adapter (part number: KCNR104), and a 10/100TX plus V.90 56K Modem Combination CNR adapter (part number: KCNR156).
