Universally detested, spam has become a significant and persistent problem on the Internet. IT systems and communications distributor Comztek is helping combat this pernicious pest with the announcement that it has secured distribution rights for Symantec`s Brightmail, a solution for removing spurious e-mail at the gateway.
According to Fred Mitchell, Symantec business development manager at Comztek, the technology protects against spam, e-mail-borne viruses and other unwanted e-mail.
"As one of the most advanced products of its kind, Brightmail has been designed to avoid false-positives - which wastes user time in reviewing quarantined e-mails - at a phenomenal ratio of one in a million, as well as reducing the need for administration with automatic updates. There is also no need for tuning.
"There is tremendous demand from local companies for solutions that root out spam. More than just clogging business communication networks, it also adversely affects productivity, can be offensive and can also introduce malware such as Trojan horses into corporate networks," he says.
Since there is no silver bullet anti-spam technology, Brightmail includes different filters effective against different types of spam, including non-English e-mails, a high level of accuracy and a low administrative burden. Brightmail currently protects in excess of 300 million e-mail inboxes across the globe.
"The Brightmail technology complements Symantec AntiVirus - one of the most popular solutions on the market - and can also be used as a standalone spam killer, so the market potential for resellers is very good," he adds.
Target customers for the product include IT or e-mail administrators/managers in small to mid-sized organisations as well as large enterprises, across vertical market sectors.
"Almost any company will agree that managing spam is a problem and most will agree that current measures are not sufficiently effective. That makes the proven Brightmail solution a strong contender to address a very real and persistent pain point for most organisations," says Mitchell.
Comztek expects the availability of Brightmail to open new opportunities for resellers to generate additional revenue and is ready to assist them with technical expertise, training and pre- and post-sales support, and therein enabling resellers to provide the best possible service to their customers.
