Knott-Craig joins Nedbank board

Johannesburg, 27 Nov 2008

Former Vodacom CEO Alan Knott-Craig has been appointed an independent non-executive director of the Nedbank Group, effective 1 January 2009.

The 56-year-old Knott-Craig left SA`s biggest cellular operator at the end of September, after 15 years at the helm of the company, serving as MD from 1993 to 1996, before taking up the position of CEO.

Under Knott-Craig`s leadership, Vodacom saw double-digit growth for 14 consecutive years.

In a SENS announcement to investors, Nedbank Group chairman Reuel Khoza says Knott-Craig is "widely acknowledged as one of the country`s most respected business personalities, following his success in pioneering the mobile technology industry".

"Under Alan`s leadership, Vodacom has become one of the most admired companies in SA and we look forward to benefiting from his expertise and strategic insight. We believe Alan`s extensive experience will add a further dimension to the independent thinking and board-level debate at Nedbank."

At the time of leaving Vodacom, Knott-Craig said he would stay on with the company as a consultant until March next year. He could not be reached for comment this morning.
