The municipality of Knysna in the eastern Cape reports that, over the last year, it has not recorded a single virus infection within its city-wide, multi-site computer network.
This outstanding security record is, according to the municipality`s IT systems administrator, Clifford Mitchell, due to its reliance on Computer Associates security software.
"Our 100% immunity record is also attributed to our close relationship with Cape Town-based IT security specialist, Neutec Consulting, which has implemented and supported the CA solution," he says.
Clifford Stewart, a Neutec director, says Knysna`s anti-virus strategy is based on CA`s eTrust Antivirus system which helps the municipality to proactively manage viral threats across its network infrastructure.
"Earlier this year there was a serious outbreak of the Netsky virus, which caused extensive IT-related problems to Cape businesses. But Knysna was totally unaffected, as eTrust AntiVirus controlled the situation admirably," says Stewart.
Adds Mitchell: "Today we only read about virus outbreaks in IT publications and hear about them from other sources long after the threat has passed. Our anti-virus solution just handles the situation perfectly."
