Kodak retires digital cameras

from creditors in a case that covers $6.7 billion in debt, Coloradoan reports.

The company said it will stop making cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames in a move that marks the end of an era for the beleaguered 132-year-old company.

Despite the drumbeat of negative news, CEO Antonio Perez and his management team insist Kodak will survive.

The Post and Courier says George Eastman produced the company's first pre-loaded camera in 1888 with this catchy pitch: "You press the button, we do the rest".

Eastman Kodak long dominated the field it created and was fittingly described by Wall Street Journal "a photography icon".

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last month. Its survival now hinges on inkjet printers and an attempt to sell 1 100 digital patents.
