Bidvest Group Company, Minolta South Africa, has introduced its first device aimed at the production print market, the Konica Minolta bizhub PRO 1050, a 105 page per minute (ppm) printer/copier/scanner that combines high image quality, flexible finishing options, reliability and productivity with low running costs.
Minolta SA copier division product manager, Paul Symonds, says with the release of the bizhub PRO 1050, Minolta South Africa has taken an important step towards becoming the first choice in digital production printing systems.
"The bizhub PRO 1050 is an end-to-end solution for production print professionals such as central repro graphic departments, pay for print markets, commercial printers and even small data centres that are seeking to expand their available range of business opportunities," he says.
In addition to its 105ppm print speed, the bizhub PRO 1050 offers a warm-up time of less than six minutes and a first copy out time of less than three seconds. It is a robust machine built to cope with heavy-duty production environments. It has a 9 000-sheet capacity and handles an average monthly volume of five to 700 000 with a maximum of 1.5 million A4 sheets a month.
The machine is able to print paper sizes up to A3 wide and weights of 60-300g/m^2. Weights of 244-300g/m^2 can be fed from the paper feed unit middle tray.
The bizhub PRO 1050 features two new paper-handling innovations. They are the ultrasound multi-sheet feed detectors at each input source to reduce errors in job handling, and an air blower in each paper tray to improve the way coated papers are handled.
Crisp image quality at 600dpi is achieved through Konica Minolta`s patented polymerised toner, which features smaller, more uniform particles for printing fine text and gradates. Precision page alignment has been emphasised, with print registration accurate to within 0.5mm, even for two-sided prints.
As an end-to-end solution, the bizhub PRO 1050 comes with a range of optional finishing devices such as the FS-503 Finisher, which has an eight-position stapler with 100-sheet capacity and staple-clinch function. The FD-501 Folding Unit offers post-sheet insertion, hole-punching and six-position folding, including inline gate folding, an industry first. The bizhub PRO 1050 also provides optional 50-sheet saddle stitching for booklets of up to 200 pages.
The bizhub PRO 1050 is powered by a range of software applications such as PageScope Job Spooler, which centralises management of active printing jobs for all multifunctional printers on the network via a client PC. PageScope Direct Print allows drag-and-drop printing of PRD or TIFF files without the need for printer drivers or applications software. PageScope JobProofer performs pre-flight proofing and allows basic image editing functions via a connected PC.
