Korea IT show goes green

Korea's biggest IT show will focus on environmentally friendly technologies, states The Korea Herald.

The Korea Communications Commission and ministry of knowledge economy will host the World IT Show 2009, at COEX, from 17 to 20 June. Under the theme: "Feel the new convergence for green IT," the exhibition will focus on environmentally friendly IT technologies, the government said.

More than 700 Korean and foreign companies are expected to participate in the show, which is designed to promote their IT technologies and products and to allow them to explore overseas opportunities.

Leighton Contractors get greener

Leighton Contractors is teaming with HP to implement a wide range of green office equipment and services across the business, says IT News.

Under the agreement with HP, Leighton Contractors will participate in the HP Carbon Offset for LaserJet Printers programme, which will result in 209 tonnes of carbon emissions from 700 HP LaserJet printers being offset during the life of the products.

This recent commitment stems from the Leighton Contractors' green IT initiative that focuses on four core elements: defining the organisation's IT asset profiles; establishing a baseline for current IT energy consumption; establishing high level green goals; and preparing the organisation's energy and waste savings plan.

Going green cuts costs

Experts say investing in green IT is a sound business decision with environmental benefits, reports the Institute of Leadership and Management.

BusinessGreen.com editor James Murray explained that installing such systems provide "really good returns on investment".

Murray said companies that look to adopt new technologies such as virtualisation can see costs fall dramatically. Businesses with a large of servers stand to benefit most from introducing more efficient technology, he stated.
