KPMG Consulting implements HR system at NDS in record time

KPMG Consulting has implemented an Oracle HR Management System (HRMS) in National Systems (NDS) within four months. The system has enabled NDS to implement and track career development and training needs analysis.

The project team, which was lead by KPMG Consulting and included Oracle Consulting and NDS users, implemented the first site in South Africa that included a training administration and career management module, which is simultaneously interfaced with the organisation`s external employee payroll. One of the benefits of this solution is that the career development objectives of the organisation can be brought into the context of the employment equity initiatives and the overall business drivers, making a positive impact on the organisation`s bottom line.

"Previously, NDS did not have access to all the HR modules required, such as training and development, and the necessary information is now available online in one integrated system. The HR manager is able to access information about individual performance levels, career development and what type of training is needed, which will in turn help maintain and increase the level in staff motivation and skills retention," says Christine de Clercq, managing consultant at KPMG Consulting.

"Oracle`s HRMS was required to support NDS`s strategic focus on their employees` career development," says Gerhard Stegman, HRMS Product Manager at Oracle Corporation South Africa. "As human capital comprises the largest portion of an organisation`s operating costs, maximising the value of HR is critical. Today`s HR departments need to align and integrate human capital with business strategy, leveraging enterprise workforce skills as a key organisational asset. Ensuring a close fit between employee competencies and job requirements begins with defining the organisation`s goals and the core competencies required to meet them."

"Some of the highlights of the project included: quick deployment of a solution with complex functionality, a good working team dynamic and excellent knowledge transfer between all involved on the project," says de Clercq. "This HRMS implementation has also laid the foundation for NDS to work towards creating a fully self-servicing HR department."

"The self-service concept uses Web-based technology to provide a single source of information to employees and managers throughout the enterprise. It enforces standardisation, prevents duplication and improves knowledge management. Self-service allows employees to control personal and competency information, enroll in training classes to develop their careers and manage items like expense claims more efficiently," concludes de Clercq.
