KSS has just been awarded two tenders with the South African Post Office, in excess of R14, 6 million.
"The Camps Bay Project" includes the upgrading of the WAN infrastructure at 206 sites as well as 5 large campus locations on a national basis. In addition the contract includes the maintenance and support of this infrastructure on a 24/7 basis.
Dennis Naidoo Senior Account Manager at KSS says, "We believe our success in winning this tender can be accredited to our Cisco partner Status, our impeccable empowerment credentials and our ability to deliver large complex ICT implementations on a national basis within serious time constraints"
In order to ensure a smooth on-time and in-budget implementation of this project, KSS has divided the project into four phases. The first phase is an existing LAN, WAN audit, the second phase involves off site equipment staging, and a skills transfer programme to all Post Office and Qhubeka Phambili Network Technologies staff, the third phase is a national rollout and core switches upgrade followed by a final configuration and performance optimisation.
Siphiwe Radebe General Manager IT at the Post Office says, "The project will improve transaction time as well as network management, putting a wide range of rural outlets on line."
"This project also embodies the fundamental objective of the South African Post Office to promote BEE", Radebe continues
A portion of the project has been awarded to an exclusively woman owned BEE network company, Qhubeka Phambili Network Technologies. This company was formed by a group of female graduates from the "Institute for Software and Satellite Applications" (ISSA), established by the department of Communications.
KSS believes by the end of the project in November 2003, it will have provided the Post Office with a more efficient, scalable and manageable network with the ability to integrate voice and video data. "The upgrading of the network Infrastructure is in line with the Post Office`s strategy to deploy an adaptable IT infrastructure that will address the business requirements without drastically changing any hardware." Radebe concludes.
KSS is a converged network integrator focusing on integrated data, voice and/or video solutions leveraging the benefits of a single converged network architecture. Based on a philosophy of "enabling Continuous Business Operation" all solutions are designed to offer optimal resilience and redundancy. Using its national support infrastructure KSS is able to deliver a full range of managed services to support customers on a 24 * 365 basis.
