KXEN Companion launches in SA

Johannesburg, 22 Oct 2004

Bytes Business Solutions, a subsidiary of the BTG Group and member of the Altron Group of companies, has launched a new predictive analytics software tool, from its principal KXEN, aimed at the SAS software market.

Dubbed the KXEN Companion, it is designed to optimise traditional data mining tools - such as those provided by SAS - and speed up the analysis process while exploiting the full power of the data held in SAS users` systems.

According to Bruno Delahaye, visiting EMEA operations manager from KXEN, it helps SAS professionals visualise and quantify the amount of information and "noise" present in their data sets.

"SAS is an excellent data mining platform," he says. "With its latest release [SAS9] it is possible to integrate data from diverse sources across the enterprise and to present it transformed and ready for data mining.

"However, it does not address many of the issues facing organisations in their battle to cut down the time it takes to produce effective business models," he says.

"Today, cycle times in business are reducing dramatically. Analysis that used to take weeks is now required by key decision-makers and senior executives in days - if not hours.

"KXEN Companion is designed to meet these demands and assist SAS users to optimise their predictive and descriptive modelling engines to create robust analytic models faster and easier.

"This emphasis on speed allows business executives to place the power of predictive analytics at the centre of their real-time decision-making process to increase productivity and drive corporate performance."

Delahaye says business analysts also benefit, as Companion is able to expand their analytic productivity and problem-solving capabilities, further reducing the variables and allowing them to deliver business models that are tuned for optimal performance.

KXEN Companion is targeted at SAS users in the banking and financial services, telecommunications and retail sectors.

"From a horizontal marketing perspective, we address a broad spectrum of applications, from churn management for HR professionals to customer relations management for some of the largest corporate marketing departments," he notes.

"In addition, KXEN Companion allows people who are not highly skilled to run data mining, business modelling and other analytical tools within an existing SAS environment, without the need to change the environment in any way to accommodate them."

Turning to the local market, Delahaye says he expects a significant interest in the new tool as many companies are looking to make predictive analytics part of their systems and business processes.

"It will optimise the considerable investment - in terms of both money and human resources - that the market has already made in data mining and associated software systems," he adds.
