Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a technology that is rapidly coming of age and finding uses in many areas. Kyocera Mita, known for its deployment of innovative technology that makes life easier for its customers, has already included RFID chips in its genuine Kyocera toner cartridges for the latest FS-2000D, FS-3900DN, FS-4000DN and FS-6950DN printers.
RFID brings several benefits for customers, as Michael Powell, product manager: corporate enterprise at Kyocera Mita South Africa, explains.
"As a company, our goals are improved reliability, reduced environmental impact and the lowest TCO in the industry," he says. "We have an established reputation in these areas and the new RFID ability continues in this tradition."
"The chip on all our genuine Kyocera toner cartridges for our latest printers makes it easy for users to see when levels are getting low. It integrates with our KM-NET software to provide a real-time overview of printer toner levels for network administrators and simultaneously displays the toner level on the printer control panel. The Toner Level Monitor takes the guesswork out of doing print runs and avoids the situation where a job ends prematurely because of toner run-out."
"Using the KM-NET software utility, managers and administrators can monitor entire networks of printers and anticipate run-outs - fixing problems before they impact on productivity. This allows for remote management, saving time and labour costs for the IT department and administration."
"A further advantage is that the RFID chip uniquely identifies and logs the use of genuine Kyocera toner, automatically validating the industry leading two-year warranty we have on all our printers.
With productivity improvements and reduced administration costs, the RFID technology has already reaped benefits for customers using the latest Kyocera printers. It is a typical example of how Kyocera Mita has achieved a leading reputation for deploying the latest ideas which bring real benefits for its customers.
"RFID is just one example of including new thinking into our products," says Powell. "This is not just nice-to-have innovation - it brings immediate and measurable bottom-line results.
"Other technologies which we have introduced include the full range of Kyocera software utilities for management and administration and the ability to print PDF documents immediately from a USB stick which connects directly to the printer without the need for a PC.
"This all shows our company`s commitment to reducing costs and improving ease of use for all our equipment," concludes Powell.
