Lannet has announced the release of Montage Web, a World Wide Web-based Network Management Platform that allows network managers to access management data and control network devices from any node on the network, or remotely, by using a standard Web Browser (Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer). "Most network managers will tell you that their network seems to have problems most often while they are at a branch office, at home, or on holiday," said Lannet regional manager Steve Casey. "With Montage Web, they don`t need to get into their cars or onto a plane - they can simply dial up the Network Management Station via the Web, and diagnose and correct the problem from any node on the network - or from their back yard." This first release of Montage Web works with Hewlett-Packard`s OpenView network management platform, running on the Sun Microsystems` SPARC stations using the Solaris operating system. Future releases of Montage Web will work on other network management platforms supported by Lannet, including HP/UX, IBM NetView, and Windows. Montage Web works via a proxy web server installed in the network management station, with industry-standard public domain Web Servers, such as CERN and NCSA installed on the network management station. These Web Servers provide both password protections and encryption to keep the network secure. When the user browses the management station`s web site, Montage Web uses CGI (Common Gateway Interface) applications to generate web pages containing the management data requested by the network manager. The CGI applications have access to the HP OpenView device management databases, as well as to management information collected via SNMP from the devices. Java applets are used to implement advanced graphic features on the web pages, which provide up-to-the-minute graphic displays on the users Web browser. The first version of Montage Web supports the following applications: * HP OpenView Maps * HP OpenView Alarms * Configuration and Control applications for Lannet devices
