Titus Labs, the leading provider of e-mail and document classification software, today announced that a large investment firm has selected the Titus Labs Message Classification (TMC), and Titus Labs Document Classification (TDC) solutions. These solutions will allow 50 000 users to classify Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Web Access (OWA), and BlackBerry e-mail, as well as Microsoft Office documents. Classification will be used for data loss prevention and to help find information for audits. As a large investment firm, this financial organisation is subject to numerous compliance requirements under regulations such as Sarbanes Oxley and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.
Using Titus Labs' solutions, the firm will be able to ensure users adhere to their classification process and policies, which designate e-mails and documents as internal, confidential or highly restricted. This approach ensures that employees are aware and accountable for how that data is handled. In addition, the organisation is better able to manage data required by compliance auditors as well as control the flow of information inside and outside the enterprise.
The firm will be moving from a template-driven system for documents to the Titus Labs commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solution, which offers full support and customisation for the firm's future data classification policy and overall information life cycle management strategies. Titus Labs Classification metadata will be leveraged by the existing Data Loss Prevention solution to ensure the explicit protection of highly restricted data. The classification solution integrates with the existing encryption tools to simplify and automate encryption based on labels. The classification labels can be used in records management to determine the proper information to retain, and to determine the appropriate retention period for information.
“Within the financial services market, compliance is a key driver for e-mail and document classification,” said Rick Patricio, Regional Sales Manager, Titus Labs. “Our offering provides a proven solution that addresses compliance considerations, while ensuring it is intuitive to use for end-users. This approach enables organisations to get classification and labelling up and running and ensure end-user acceptance in a relatively short period of time.”
Says Sean Glansbeek, MD of Seven Days Technologies “Although South African organisations are not affected by local data privacy regulations “yet”, many organisations that are affiliated or owned by international concerns are either expected to or required to also comply to these and many more international regulations.”
