The last call for entries for the ‘MTN Business App of the Year’ awards has been announced.
The annual awards, introduced in 2011, aim to champion app development in SA and celebrate local talent and out-of-the-box thinkers that drive disruption and change.
Winners in each category, as well as the overall winner, will be announced at the MTN Business App of the Year Awards being held at the Sandton Convention Centre on 24 October, with the overall winner walking away with a trip to Silicon Valley to the value of over R200 000.
Categories include best consumer solution, best enterprise solution, best incubated solution, most innovative solution, best health solution, best gaming solution, best agricultural solution, best educational solution, best financial solution as well as best breakthrough developer, best “South African” app and Best Women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) solution.
Some of the apps which have been discovered through this platform over the last eight years include Snapscan, DSTVNow, Stokfella and Domestly.
With only 50 entries in the inaugural competition in 2011, last year saw more than 600 entries, an indication of both the popularity of these Awards as well as the growing pool of talented app developers locally.
Submissions close on 25 September 2019, following which a judging panel of tech experts will begin the shortlisting process.
In addition, the awards event includes an exhibition hall which will showcase 30 of the best tech and app development innovations SA has to offer, as well as an opportunity to network with representatives from corporate SA, tech partners, developers and incubators.
