Latest Backup Professional offers enhanced platform support

Johannesburg, 25 Jan 2006

Remote backup and retrieval specialist, Attix5, has released the latest version of its proven Backup Professional solution offering support for Mac and, in the Server Edition, support for most Unix platforms.

Company MD, Flip Smit, confirms that Attix5 Backup Professional v4.1 Backup Professional Desktop and Laptop Edition clients are available for Microsoft Windows 98, Me, 2000 and XP, as well as Mac OS X (from v10.3).

Backup Professional Server Edition clients are now available for Microsoft Windows NT4, 2000 Server and Server 2003; Novell NetWare v6.0 and v6.5; Linux, Solaris and a wide range of Unix platforms subject to JRE1.4+ availability and Mac OS X (from v10.3). In addition, the latest Server Edition incorporates Auto Update, a Volume Shadow Copy service to backup open files, multiple thread backups, a Storage Platform Overview report, mirror catch-up, account archiving per group capability and the ability to view log files from the management console.

"These new features and improvements," says Smit, "complement an already mature product set and were developed in consultation with our partners and customers, both locally and abroad, to ensure that we continue to include their requirements in our technology roadmap.

"Cross-platform support has been enhanced with the Mac and the additional Unix backup clients to ensure that customers can use one product for all their environments - even that Unix box in the corner that nobody wants to touch!"

Centralised management has been improved in Backup Professional v4.1, enabling the centralised management of data, especially that residing in remote offices or on notebooks.

"All backup clients can now automatically be upgraded to the latest software version during the backup process - there`s no need to manually upgrade software anymore," Smit says.

Tangible benefits of Attix5 Backup Professional v4.1 Backup Professional include:

* Shortened backup windows;
* Enhanced capability to enforce company backup policies;
* Centralised control and monitoring; and
* Increased corporate control over distributed data.

"Remote sites with slow connections are always problematic, especially if you have to rely on manual procedures from non-technical staff. The latest version of Backup Professional is a secure, automated disk-to-disk backup and recovery solution that addresses all data protection requirements," Smit concludes.
