Fans of the renowned IBM A-Series Essentials ThinkPad range are invited to think about its replacement - the new R-Series. This latest addition to the ThinkPad family range brings power and portability into the IBM home.
Tipped as the next level in notebook technology, IBM has launched the R-series notebook range to replace the prestigious A-series Essentials range. The latest series promises the user a broader choice of offerings. Through its effective distribution network, Tarsus Technologies, distribution arm of JSE-listed MB Technologies, will help IBM extend its reach with the new series.
The ThinkPad R Series is primarily targeted at growing businesses, educational institutions and professionals. The range incorporates latest technology features including the Intel Mobile Pentium III processor with Intel SpeedStep technology at 1GHz or Intel Mobile Celeron processor at 900MHz.
Other technology highlights include 100MHz front-side system bus, integrated Ethernet on all models and bright 14.1-inch TFT display or 13.3-inch TFT - both with XGA 1024x768 resolution. The integrated Ethernet means that one is able to connect to virtually any business network.
"The new IBM ThinkPad R30 notebooks deliver the ideal blend of power and portability. These easy-to-use notebooks are for frequent mobile users who want simple, ready-to-run computing," explains Warren Small, IBM product manager at Tarsus Technologies.
The R-Series was designed with portability in mind. The idea is to empower users through a large display and modular bay housed in a lightweight notebook. Port Replicator support and Ultrabay Plus features offer ready-to-run computing.
The modular Ultrabay Plus feature allows one to customise the ThinkPad notebook with options like swappable, sharable storage drives and a numeric keypad or WordPad cradle.
The user has additional power through easy-to-manage hardware and software features. ThinkLight makes it easier to see the keyboard in low-light conditions and the ThinkPad Button allows for one-button access to software options such as ThinkPad Assistant and Access ThinkPad.
The ThinkPad Assistant offers a quick search engine and online user`s guide as well as animated demos of operating procedures. Access ThinkPad provides direct access to necessary information - details that will help one to set up, learn about and enhance the ThinkPad R Series notebook.
