Latest Intel Core i7 processors available on new 6U CompactPCI boards

Johannesburg, 22 Apr 2010

RedLinX Embedded division, which is one of four divisions within RedLinX, now has the latest Intel Core i7 processors available in 6U CompactPCI form factor from Concurrent Technologies. These processors feature intelligent performance, power efficiency, integrated graphics, and error correcting code (ECC) memory on industry-standard x86 architecture.

Comments Wayne Kotze, field engineer at RedLinX Embedded Solutions: “When paired with the Mobile Intel QM57 Express chipset, this integrated two-chip platform provides excellent graphics, memory and I/O bandwidth, as well as remote management capabilities and reliability to meet the requirements of a broad range of embedded applications, including retail and transaction solutions, gaming platforms and industrial automation equipment.”

The processors feature dual-core processing with industry-leading performance capabilities, including Intel Turbo Boost Technology and Intel Hyper-Threading Technology. Advanced Encryption Standard Instructions (AES-NI) help accelerate data encryption and decryption, and improve performance. While incorporating advanced technology, these processors remain software-compatible with previous IA-32 processors.

The graphics engine is integrated into the processor, providing a two-chip solution with enhanced graphics performance compared with previous Intel platforms. The memory controller hub is also integrated into the processor, providing faster performance as well as board real estate savings. Additionally, developers can create one board design and scale their product line with a variety of performance-per-watt processors using the same socket. Thermal design power (TDP) options range from 18W to 35W.

The Compact PCI boards (PP 712/08x) is a PC compatible, high performance, high functionality board, supporting the Intel Core i7 processor up to 2.53GHz (32nm process technology), the Mobile Intel QM57 Express Chipset, with up to 8 gigabytes of DDR3-1066 ECC SDRAM. This single slot board features 2 PMC/XMC sites and a variety of interfaces, including an option for an on-board SATA300 drive and CompactFlash.

The PP 712/08x will operate in a system slot, a peripheral slot or independently from the CompactPCI bus. System networking is provided by three Gigabit Ethernet links, and the board is compliant to the PICMG 2.16 specification. Full system monitoring is provided by the PICMG 2.9 compliant IPMI interface. Many sustainable industry standard operating systems are supported. The board is a plug compatible with the popular PP512/06x family. The PP 712/08x is suitable for a range of applications within the industrial control, telecoms, telemetry, scientific and aerospace markets.

Note: All products are available at RedLinX Embedded Solutions.
