Intel`s latest motherboard offerings, the D845PT "Pendleton" and D845BG "Billings" boards, are now available in SA from Intel distributor Axiz. Featuring support for Double Data Rate (DDR) SDRAM memory, these motherboards deliver enhanced performance for mainstream usage.
"These are the first of Intel`s DDR-SDRAM motherboards, and more variations are expected later this year," says Alex Morse, desktops product manager at Axiz. "The 845 chipset was designed to enable mainstream volume segments with the Pentium 4 processor to extend performance/price platforms with the power to drive demanding consumer and graphic intensive applications."
DDR SDRAM (double data rate SDRAM) is synchronous dynamic RAM (SDRAM) that can theoretically improve memory clock speed to at least 266MHz. It activates output on both the rising and falling edge of the system clock rather than on just the rising edge, potentially doubling output. One of the benefits of this is more realistic video and graphics rendering.
"SDRAM had reached its peak at 133MHz, and the introduction of DDR SDRAM at 266MHz allows memory to perform at similar levels to the other components on the motherboard," says Morse. "With FSB speeds of 400MHz and hard drive access at ATA 100, the combination with improved memory speeds and faster processors results in an overall performance boost for the user."
With the D845PT and D845BG motherboards, system integrators can now design and build custom configurations based on specific technology requirements, while maintaining the flexibility to alter or upgrade later. Both offer the choice of either a Communications and Networking Riser (CNR) or Intel PRO/100 Network Connection, and three PCI slots on the D845PT (microATX), and six PCI slots on the D845BG (ATX). An AGP slot enables customised graphics solutions.
From e-commerce to creating personal music libraries, business and personal users are driving demand for a variety of complex applications. To ensure that today`s PCs are ready for the digital world, Intel desktop boards now come with a full array of software tools and solutions, including Norton Internet Security for Internet security and virus protection, NTI CD-Maker 2000 for creating full-featured CDs, SoundMAX with SPX for robust audio functionality, and RealPlayer basic to enable streaming audio and video.
Axiz is a distributor of products from market leaders HP, Microsoft, Intel and LG, and also carries a wide range of leading brand components and solutions. More information is available at www.axiz.com.
