Enterprise business application vendor, Lawson Software, represented in SA by Solit iNovations, has added a multimedia information delivery and business intelligence tool to its suite of products with the acquisition of Florida-based Keyola Corporation.

Keyola's collaborative business intelligence technology will enhance the capabilities of Lawson's applications automatically to deliver event-driven notifications across an organisation, and instantly to push key information to the right people.

To be sold under the Lawson Smart Notification banner, the Keyola software enables people to define what type of information they find useful; it can then be automatically delivered to PDA, e-mail, voice, text messages and wireless devices.

"Lawson's plan is ultimately to integrate Keyola with its suite to deal with rich content and actionable information," says Brenda du Plessis, marketing manager at Solit iNovations. "The Keyola event-driven business intelligence platform provides users with benefits from focused information delivered at the point of work, together with the ability to access related content and applications dynamically, collaborate with others, and take immediate action.

"As a result, it eliminates traditional business intelligence pain points, including information overload, lack of certainty, people and process inefficiencies, and the complexities of existing tools."

Keyola's open architecture means it can be used in standalone form, to extend the capabilities of existing business intelligence products, and to embed event-driven BI capabilities inside enterprise applications such as customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), and sales force automation (SFA) systems.

"It improves people and process efficiency by instilling certainty and discipline into business processes by providing real-time, event-driven notification with links to related information," she continues. "It eliminates the risks inherent in being dependent on users logging on, being able to trawl through reports to find a problem, and knowing where to find the related information needed to fully understand the situation and achieve an optimal resolution."

Comprehensive, intelligent categorisation and auto-relate features make it easy to find and collaborate with the right people to solve problems and exploit opportunities. In addition, its XML-based interfaces enable system-to-system collaboration, facilitating automated decision-making through closed-loop integration, working on any device - even embedded inside existing applications - with no client software install.

"Keyola provides information and insights in a simple, self-evident, highly accessible and fully customisable format, with ease-of-use features including an innovative subscription wizard that gets new users up and running with fully personalised and relevant content in minutes, recommend to a friend, and auto-suggestion based on existing subscriptions."

Lawson users in SA, Du Plessis concludes, will thus be able to draw the benefits of directed business intelligence multimedia delivery to devices of their choice, custom-built for their existing applications.
