Safmarine Computer Services (SCS), provider of leading-edge integrated IT business solutions, went straight to the source last month when it sent a delegation of seven consultants for a two-day workshop to the IBM Websphere Innovation Centre, based in Hursley, UK.
The delegation gained valuable new insights into and first-hand experience directly from the developers of Websphere, building up strong relationships and direct channels of communication within IBM/Lotus.
"Although SCS has been using this technology for almost a year, the reality is that there is very little Websphere Portal Server expertise to draw from in SA," says Graham Dickinson, SCS Business Solutions Divisional Director.
"We knew it was time to move our knowledge to a new level and by going over to the UK we gained a better understanding of certain key aspects along with hands-on experience, which we can now pass onto our clients. We certainly feel confident after seeing IBM's commitment and we've built up good channels of communication," added Dickinson.
SCS is currently one of the few South African companies with real international Websphere Portal Server technology experience. SCS also provides these services to Safmarine, based in Antwerp.
