Leading eBusiness Infrastructure Management Solution Automates Critical Tech Operations

Johannesburg, 31 May 2002

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that V"astmanland L"ans Landsting (VLL), a Swedish public service organization that manages the delivery of health care and social services to 257,000 people, is using CA`s acclaimed Unicenter family of solutions to proactively and cost-effectively manage all of its IT infrastructure. By implementing Unicenter, VLL is successfully improving service levels while significantly reducing the cost of its IT operations.

VLL`s 4,000 users depend on the organization`s diverse IT services to meet their responsibilities for the delivery of public medical and dental care, as well as a wide range of education, business, and environmental services. The organization`s infrastructure includes 200 servers and 4,000 PCs.

As a public service organization, VLL must optimize its service levels with limited resources available in the public sector. This places great demands on the IT department, which has a staff of only a few dozen people.

Before implementing Unicenter, VLL`s IT staff had to spend a great deal of time visiting different hospitals just to install new applications and/or reconfigure systems. Now, with Unicenter, technicians can perform such tasks remotely - eliminating travel time and speeding completion. VLL`s IT department has already successfully executed over 150,000 such remote installations using the powerful capabilities of Unicenter.

"Now we need only eight technicians to support all of our PCs," said VLL IT manager Jan Edman. "In addition, Unicenter keeps us continually updated on the status of each of our servers, which makes our work much easier."

Unicenter also automates tasks such as data transfers and backups. This further minimizes the IT staff`s workload, freeing them to focus on more strategic projects while ensuring the reliability of critical business processes. "Organizations such as VLL that have geographically dispersed operations and a limited IT staff gain a double benefit from the powerful management capabilities of Unicenter," said Per Kogut, Managing Director, CA Nordic. "First, from an IT manager`s point-of-view, they can be much more resource-efficient in their technical operations. Second - and even more importantly - the entire organization and its clients benefit from significantly improved service levels and greater reliability."
