Leading edge Verbatim media technologies launched at SDD Technology Showcase

Johannesburg, 06 Mar 1998

Visitors to the SDD Technology Showcase, which takes place around South Africa in March and April, will be among the first to see the latest developments in tape and optical media technology from Verbatim.According to Trevor Chamberlain, Verbatim's Southern Africa sales manager, the SDD Technology Showcase provides an ideal platform at which to launch Verbatim's new Ditto Max Cartridges and DataLifePlus CD-Rewritable (CD-RW) drives.Organised by Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD), SA's largest broad-based technology distributor, the SDD Technology Showcase is the first show of its kind and magnitude in this country."CD mastering has never been as simple, fast and reliable as it is with the new CD-RW 2x2x6 drive. Indeed, it makes CD mastering as easy as drag and drop," Chamberlain says.Designed for compatibility and functionality, this tray-loading CD-RW drive is a multi-function unit designed to write to both CD-R and CD-RW disks at 2x speed and to read at 6x speed. Its compact design houses both a CD-Recordable function and CD-ReWritable technology."CD-R disks created with this drive can be made compatible with current CD-ROM players while CD-RW media are compatible with all MultiRead drives," he adds.Verbatim's new Ditto Max cartridges are set to redefine tape performance with one of the fastest, most cost-effective, high capacity tape solutions ever."Utilising Verbatim's revolutionary DM-Extra platform, these cartridges - available in 3GB, 5GB, 7GB and 10GB capacities - provide the media technology for the design of Iomega's breakthrough Ditto Max family of drives. Together, these two technologies deliver unsurpassed speed, capacity and convenience," Chamberlain says. The SDD Technology showcase, which will provide the channel and end-users an unprecedented opportunity to view the latest 'best of breed' IT products from the world's top hardware and software vendors, kicked off in Bloemfontein on March 4 and moves through Port Elizabeth, East London, Midrand, Durban, Nelspruit, and Pietersburg before ending in Cape Town on April 23.
