Cognos garnered first place over competitors SAS Institute and Business Objects SA.

Cognos also grew worldwide end-user query and reporting tools revenue at a rate of 10.8% between 2000-2001, and took second-place share of the overall worldwide information access tools revenue, placing ahead of rival Business Objects SA.
