Leaf Wireless signs major offshore coup in Australia

Johannesburg, 10 Oct 2003

Local company Leaf Wirelesswww.leafwireless.com has announced its first major strategic offshore partnership down under, with Virgin Mobile Australia.

The partnership is a significant step in a major push by the company to market and sell its offerings around the globe. Virgin Mobile Australia selected Leaf Wireless to develop its SMS, WAP and MMS portal, against the backdrop of competitive bidding from a number of global companies.

According to Jonathan Marchbank, CEO of Virgin Mobile Australia: "We looked all over the world for a partner which we believed not only had the technology on board to do the job, but one which had a good reputation and a proven track record with its existing client base.

"We selected Leaf Wireless for the superior quality of their offerings, their strategic insight and ability in developing successful large-scale mobile portals, as well as their leading technological innovation within this specific market space."

The deal makes Leaf Wireless one of the few local mobile technology companies to take their offerings offshore, and perhaps more impressively cracking a very difficult Australian market.

According to Leaf Wireless the company is set to leverage South African skills on an international stage, bringing cost-effective elements such as total remote management to the equation.

Brandon Leigh, CEO of Leaf Wireless, says: "To have won this contract in the face of such strong global competition is true validation of the depth of technological skills in the South African market.

"The relationship between ourselves and Virgin Mobile Australia is a truly strategic one, and heralds the introduction of a new era for Leaf, positioning us firmly in the global mobile space. Every client`s needs are so unique, that each new project we work on stretches both ourselves and our technology to new heights."

One of the key selling points for Virgin Mobile Australia was Leaf`s ability to spin technology into strategy and then deliver on the deployment thereof. The Australian company put enormous emphasis not only on Leaf`s technology but also on the current intellectual capital contained within the company, which Virgin Mobile believe will be integral to the future growth and success of their portal.
