In 2004, Leigh Matthews was kidnapped and murdered, a crime that shocked and devastated the nation. Out of this tragic event, was born the Leigh Matthews Trust Fund, a non-profit organisation that raises funds to support initiatives that can assist victims of abuse and crime.
Marking the first day of the international 16-day campaign of activism and No Abuse of Women and Children, the Leigh Matthews Trust Fund is hosting a fund raiser Ladies Tea on the 25th of November 2006. The proceeds from this event will go towards a trauma counselling centre for victims of abuse and violence which will operate from Johannesburg University; and toward equipment for DNA analysis for the forensics laboratory in Pretoria, a key component in solving the Leigh Matthews murder.
Support of this event will not only provide the funds to further the cause of the Leigh Matthews Trust Fund, but will also be a morning of fun, surprises, celebrities and much more.
* Items sponsored by Jenna Clifford and Sandy MacCormack will be auctioned.
* A fashion show sponsored by Taliwag with Bernelee Daniell, Miss SA 1995, modelling - two outfits will be auctioned.
* Speakers include local celebrity Gary Kieswetter and the Head of the DNA Laboratory, Johan van Niekerk.
* Auctions, raffles and gifts from Hoogland Hydro, Sandy McCormack, Taliwag, hampers, a holiday at an RCI Resort donated by the Matthews family and more!
* Entertainment by CH2 and Navi Redd.
