Lenovo offers two-week grace period for free Vista upgrades

Johannesburg, 23 Mar 2007

While the eligibility period for a free upgrade to Windows Vista officially ended on 15 March, Tarsus Technologies has announced that Lenovo users will benefit from a two-week grace period, essentially extending the window in which they can request an upgrade until the end of March.

"This does, however, depend on when their Lenovo computer was purchased," explains Brett Walter, Lenovo product manager at Tarsus.

"Providing the purchase took place between 26 October last year and 15 March this year, Lenovo owners can request a free upgrade to Windows Vista."

While the package itself is free, Walter says customers will be liable for a small shipping and handling fee. "For all intents and purposes, however, the Vista package they receive will bear no charge," he says.

"Redeeming this offer couldn't be more straightforward," he continues. "Users simply have to visit Lenovo's 'Express Upgrade to Windows Vista' Web page and enter the details of their Windows XP certificate of authenticity and provide proof of purchase.

"Their package, consisting of a licence and DVD, will be placed in the mail and they can expect delivery within a few weeks."

Walter says Lenovo has furthermore also dedicated a great deal of resource to aiding users moving to Vista. "Through Lenovo's Vista support page, users can gain access to tips, driver downloads and general information about upgrading to Vista," he says.

"Those that haven't taken this step as yet should do so before time runs out," he adds.

"Vista is a truly awesome leap in computing environments, bringing greatly improved stability and security, not to mention a host of worthwhile extras to the table. With the ability to upgrade for such a small charge, it is an opportunity not to be missed," he concludes.
