Lenovo presents nettop

Lenovo is offering a low-cost desktop or "nettop" that uses an Intel Atom 230 processor. The Lenovo H200 desktop is geared toward consumers, but sells at a low price of $400, reports Allibaba.

While PC vendors spent most of the 2009 International CES trying to outdo themselves when it comes to offering the latest and greatest "netbook" or mini-notebook with an Intel Atom processor, rarely did these same companies talk about plans for low-cost desktops using the same chip.

The Lenovo H200 also offers a number of other standard features, including an Intel GMA 950 chip set, a minimum of 1GB of main memory and a 160GB SATA (serial ATA) hard disk drive.

Asus unveils notebook range

Asus has introduced the Asus F50 and F70 range of notebooks that combine cutting-edge design with equally innovative multimedia features tailored specifically for users who desire both high definition audiovisual entertainment and extensive multitasking capabilities on the move, says IT News Online.

The company says each notebook is quintessentially trendy, imbued with infusion styling that sets it apart from conventional notebook design.

The F50GX features graphics prowess in the form of an integrated graphics solution imbedded in the chipset, providing users with graphical performance likened to a dedicated graphics card.

Dell faces competition

Computer maker Dell is revamping its line of laptops as part of its effort to recapture the personal computer industry's top spot, states Austin Business Journal.

Although the laptop market is fast growing, it's also fragmenting with new products and competitors. That could spell trouble for Dell, which now relies on laptops to contribute nearly one-third of all its revenue.

The company is attacking the laptop market from both ends of the spectrum by recently introducing the low-cost and hugely popular netbook products, while quietly developing a high-end, ultrathin notebook that is reportedly scheduled for release next month.
