Lenovo selects software distributor

Johannesburg, 13 Jul 2009

Biodata IT has been appointed by Lenovo as the exclusive distributor of the Utimaco for sub-Saharan Africa.

David Drummond, Lenovo TX manager at Lenovo SA, says: “We needed a local distributor that could handle the logistics of ensuring our resellers could get the Utimaco security software for their customers, while at the same time providing superior support and technical services.”

The Utimaco SafeGuard Enterprise software is Lenovo's software security standard for its PC, notebook, workstation and server range. According to Lenovo, the software provides a critical link to local resellers of its hardware devices.

Lenovo says in a statement that the Utimaco SafeGuard Enterprise solution is designed to protect confidential information and comply with mandates. It's a modular information protection control platform that enforces policy-based security for PCs and mobile devices across mixed environments.

According to the company, the product is transparent to end-users, easy to administer from a single central console, and provides multi-layered endpoint data security by combining encryption and data leakage prevention.

National workshops

The Biodata team is headed by Lenovo product manager, De Jean Bosman, who will be introduced to the Lenovo resellers in a series of training workshops that will be hosted nationally over the next few months.

Christian Runte, MD of Biodata, says the company is training and preparing its teams to handle the needs of Lenovo's resellers. The workshops will be designed to impart business and technical information.

In 2005, Utimaco signed a partnership deal to market its SafeGuard security solutions with Lenovo's ThinkVantage Technologies concept, in order to advance mobile security on ThinkPad and ThinkCentre PCs.
