Lexmark continues to support Cotlands

Johannesburg, 16 Nov 2007

Lexmark`s Cartridge Recycling Initiative for Babies (CRIB) was able to secure a further 672 Baby Days for abused, abandoned, HIV-positive and orphaned children at Cotlands between July to September 2007.

Lexmark Baby Days translates into the daily cost to care for a child at Cotlands, which is generated through the return by consumers and businesses of their used Lexmark cartridges for recycling.

"We have recycled over 44 tons of used cartridges since the inception of CRIB in April 2002. We are not only protecting the environment, but also giving children the opportunity to live fulfilled and healthy lives through our corporate social investment programme Siyaphambili," says Branislav Zivkovic, Managing Director of Lexmark South Africa, during a recent visit to Cotlands.

Every cartridge returned to Lexmark is either re-used or recycled. Cartridges are torn down and recycled into raw materials (plastic, aluminium, ferrous metal, paper, etc) and the resultant material is used to make new products.

Through environmentally progressive recycling solutions, Lexmark continues to improve its recycling story, which includes a no landfill policy.

Consumers can return their used Lexmark ink cartridges by using the prepaid postage bag included in each Lexmark ink cartridge package, while larger corporations can arrange to have recycling boxes placed at their businesses for toner collection.

We rely on our partners to create awareness among their Lexmark customers of the CRIB Initiative and we thank them for their commitment. This has made it possible for Lexmark to donate over 31 000 Baby Days to Cotlands in the past five years," concludes Zivkovic.
