Venture Computer, the sole distributor in Southern Africa for Lexmark International today announced that-Lexmark Electronics, an independent business of Lexmark International, Inc., was establishing a new contract electronics manufacturing (CEM) plant in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico for printed circuit board assembly. The new 150,000 square foot facility will be operational in the second quarter of 2000.
"Since our inception two years ago, we have been focused on establishing a global presence and opening facilities that bring us even closer to our customers around the world," said Ben M. Streepey, vice president and general manager of Lexmark Electronics. "Just six months ago we began operations in Brno, the Czech Republic and now we`re getting underway in Mexico. This accelerated growth is in response to the explosion of the CEM industry and reflects our commitment to supporting our customers worldwide."
The plant is strategically located in the north-eastern region of Mexico, just a few miles from the southern tip of the U.S. border near McAllen, Texas. It is in close proximity to several major transportation points of entry, making access between the U.S. and Mexico quick and easy.
The $60 billion CEM industry is growing at 20 percent annually, according to Technology Forecasters, Inc. This anticipated growth will present new opportunities for Lexmark Electronics to continue growing its operations globally. Lexmark Electronics will maintain its high standards in the new facility by implementing the well-established assembly principles it has practised for years in Lexington, Kentucky. Following "copy exact" processes, the Mexico plant is expected to achieve the same two-hour average cycle times as its other locations.
