Lexmark International SA today announced that it has embarked on a project to build a library for the Hector Petersen School in Soweto.
"This project is yet another activity within our Siyaphambili programme," commented Hans Horn, MD of Lexmark International SA. "Following the Tree Planting we undertook at the school a few weeks ago, and the commitment we made to build a library for them within 12 months of that date, this initiative is a natural progression and an activity that gives many people and organisations the opportunity to become involved and make a valuable contribution.
"We believe that this initiative will add to the children`s schooling and learning experience for years to come, by encouraging them to read traditional books as well as experience the greater world out there through the Web.
"We are appealing to everyone to donate old, well-loved books so that others can share in their treasures and learn from their pages," added Horn. "Each book donated will have a personalised bookplate telling the children about the book`s sponsor.
"We want to create a warm, inviting and educational environment for these children," concluded Horn, "and each book sponsored will assist us in achieving that goal."
As is done with the CRIB recycling initiative, Lexmark will issue regular communications regarding the progress of this Library project.
