Lexmark looks to speed things up

Johannesburg, 16 Jul 2008

Mark Hiller, the newly appointed MD of Lexmark SA, says the company has all the right tools in place to grow, despite tough prevailing economic conditions.

He says it is "music to [his] ears" when he hears companies need to reduce costs, as this is where Lexmark's value proposition comes into play.

Hiller has replaced Branislav Zivkovic at the helm of the company with immediate effect.

Zivkovic rejoined Lexmark International after hinting at the recent local channel partner launch that SA should expect a South African MD soon.

Hiller says from what he has seen in the last couple of days, Lexmark is doing well and he is walking into a healthy business.

"Now it is about maintaining and building momentum. All the tools are there in terms of the people and the products; now we just have to make it work better."

Hiller was involved in creating Lexmark SA when it was still Venture Computer, Lexmark International's sole distributor in SA.

The international company bought out the distributor in 2001 and Hiller left to pursue other business interests, which he says has left him with more business skills.

Lexmark International already stated in 2001 that the South African market had matured, but Hiller believes there is still a lot to be achieved domestically.

According to him, other companies may be taking strain in the face of a possible recession, but Lexmark SA is looking to employ more people as it consolidates its market offerings.

"We see considerable opportunities in terms of securing business. You need to be effective in terms of your and penetrating the market, but for us that is not an issue - Lexmark SA seems to have good traction."
