LG Electronics has appointed leading distributor, Compucomp, to distribute its range of IT products, including its new PC range, which is due to be launched in SA during February.

This was confirmed by Carlos Vizcarra, CEO of the Compucomp group of companies, who said he viewed the appointment by LG Electronics as "highly strategic", adding that it would "significantly effect the company`s bottom-line" during the next 12 -24 months. The company becomes the second distributor appointed by LG Electronics, with Compucomp responsible for distributing the electronic and IT giant`s entire IT range, including PCs, monitors, CD-ROMs, CD rewritable recorders and DVD ROMs.

"The LG IT range complements our current range of products perfectly, including our own AUWA range of PCs and notebooks. It gives our dealers a wider choice." Vizcarra said LG Electronics has a "solid reputation" in SA as a company that provides high quality products at affordable prices. "We are especially excited about LG`s new PC range - we intend to make the LG PC the number one selling PC in SA within the next two years," Vizcarra stressed. "If you look at the PCs features, its pedigree and its pricing, then the range is going to be exceedingly hard to beat." Vizcarra also said his company had the infrastructure, including seven branches around SA and more than 1000 dealers, to "ensure that the LG range of products achieves maximum market penetration".

LG Electronics is the world`s largest optical storage manufacturer and the third largest monitor manufacturer.

Compucomp currently boasts branches in Cape Town, George, Port Elizabeth, Durban, East London, Pietersburg and Johannesburg, and is planning to open a further three branches in Pretoria, Nelspruit and Bloemfontein.

Commenting on the appointment of Compucomp as its nationwide distributor, Jaehong Kim, product manager of IT products at LG Electronics Incorporated in Johannesburg, said it took the company four months to decide on a distributor. "We looked at a number of candidates, but opted for Compucomp because of their established infrastructure and product knowledge. While our products are of a high quality, meaning our service rates are at a very low level, it is reassuring to know that Compucomp has the facilities to service our products where required, either on-site or on a carry-in basis."

Kim said the company`s new PC range, which will sport both the latest AMD and Intel chips, will be made available to Compucomp during the middle of March.

"We aim to become one of the biggest IT players in SA. We are sure that our PC range is going to make a strong impact on the local market and believe that Compucomp has the expertise and the access to the dealer market to make a huge success of this venture."
