LG Electronics develops world`s largest LCD TV/monitor

Johannesburg, 21 Jun 2001

LG Electronics has introduced a 29-inch wide digital LCD PC Monitor (XGA) and TV Tuner with HD (High Definition) digital screen quality, as well as A/V input for VCR and DVD connection.

"The new 29-inch digital LCD TV by LGE is the world`s largest digital TV with LCD screen. Until now, 28-inches has been the biggest," explains Jaehong Kim, product manager of IT products at LG Electronics SA.

"Compared to conventional same grade CPT TV, LGE`s 29-inch digital LCD TV is only one-eighth in width (6.5cm) and half the weight (30kg)," he says.

"As such, it can be installed anywhere including hanging on the wall and display at public places."

The new LCD TV can not only receive conventional analogue TV signals, but also every type of digital TV signals, with a digital set-top box to realise SD (Standard Definition, 480I, 480P) to HD grade (720P, 1080I) images. When used as a monitor, it can support from VGA (640 x 480) to XGA (1024 x 768), supporting the high image quality needed for a large-sized PC monitor.

The LN-20A1 also has embedded speakers and viewing angle of 170 degrees, power consumption of 120 W/h, and brightness of 450 cd/m. When compared to conventional CPT TVs, its power consumption and brightness are improved twofold.

Says Kim: "Users can also surf the Internet by connecting the TV to a PC, maximising viewing experience by supporting PIP (Picture in Picture) to enjoy TV, DVD player and VCR simultaneously."

LGE plans to introduce the new product to global overseas markets within the latter half of 2001.

In addition to the development of a 29-inch digital LCD TV, LGE also succeeded in developing 20.1-inch digital LCD TV for AV, which offers SD level image quality and a screen ratio of 4:3 (length: width).
