LG, MS cloud team up

South Korea's LG Electronics has signed a partnership deal with Microsoft on cloud computing and virtualisation, IT technologies aimed at helping business cut costs, reports News Centre.

Under the pact, LG will introduce monitors integrated with Microsoft software. The monitors will function as virtual computers, allowing multiple users to run programs off a single standard PC, according to LG.

The alliance will primarily target the market for virtualisation solutions for educational institutions, aiming to become a leader in the segment with a 25% share in 2012. The segment is expected to grow by more than 50% every year, reaching six million units in 2012 and 20 million units in 2015, says LG.

Top tech firms ink cloud alliance

To offer cloud services, four companies, namely Orange Business Services, Cisco, EMC and VMware have entered an alliance, called Flexible 4 Business, states Topnews.

As per the agreement made between the companies, a private cloud will be provided to customers so they can either install it on their sites or on Orange Business Services (OBS) network.

The alliance will also offer services like data backup, security and unified communications services.

Report reveals cloud security reliable

A recent study by Broadband Testing and Spirent Communications has found that security in cloud computing is both achievable and measurable, according to Centrebeam.

InfoTech's report states that virtual data centres and cloud computing can be equipped with security systems that are capable of resisting all current attacks.

The research put cloud computing environments through real-world testing by creating a test network and bombarding it with the countless threats to desktop security.
