LG Electronics has landed three prestigious honours at this year`s International Forum (IF) Design Awards held at CeBIT 2003, the world`s largest exhibition of multi-media and information technology held in Hanover, Germany.
LG won the awards for its CDMA2000 1X colour mobile handset, 23" Flatron LCD monitor and its innovative mirror Art Cool air-conditioning system.
This is the second year in a row that LG has clinched three awards from Germany`s I.F. Association, responsible for Europe`s most respected design prize.
"This is a massive testament to LG`s pursuit of excellence in research and development of `ahead-of-the-curve` digital products for the consumer electronics market," said Mr. MB Shin, President of LG Electronics Middle East and Africa Operations.
At its vast 1,000 square metre stand at CeBIT, LG displayed a variety of cutting-edge products from its Digital Display, Information and Systems divisions. Products included home-networking systems, wireless CDMA, GSM/GPRS terminals, Plasma Display Panels and LCD TVs.
"CeBIT is a massive exhibition, visited by companies and individuals from all over the world, and that gives LG Electronics a chance to showcase its leading-edge technology to a very educated and discerning audience," said Shin. "LG will be looking to bring some of the cutting-edge designs unveiled at CeBIT to GITEX this year."
Since establishing a design research centre in Ireland (Dublin), as a part of a more globalised approach to design in 1991, LGE has built up a global design network, linking Dublin with other overseas design centres in New Jersey (1993), California (1999), Tokyo (1993), and Beijing (2003) to respond proactively in the latest trends of global design and to develop designs that meet customer preference of the global market.
Germany`s IF Design Awards celebrate their 49th anniversary this year. Along with IDEA (Industrial Design Excellence Awards), the IF Design Awards is one of the highest honours in the industrial design, recognised for their tradition and distinction.
