LG offers network storage

LG Electronics will unveil its N4B1 network attached storage (NAS), which provides integrated management, at IFA 2008, reports Pakobserver.

This NAS offers advanced data management features, including a built-in Blue-ray drive, version management and four-bay configurations and allows multiple users to share a single Blue-ray, DVD or CD by creating a virtual disc library.

LG's NAS is compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac computers and networks and also allows users on different operating systems to share and store data, whether directly connected to the NAS, on a network or over the Internet.

Storage market soars

Worldwide external disc storage systems factory revenue totalled $5.1 billion in the second quarter of 2008, according to the IDC Worldwide Disk Storage Systems Quarterly Tracker, reports Marketwatch.

The total disc storage systems market recorded $6.9 billion in revenue, while the total network disc storage market (NAS and Open SAN) recorded $3.8 billion in revenue.

The top five vendors in external disc storage systems were HP, IBM, EMC, Dell and Sun Microsystems.

HP presents virtual solution

HP announced the release of HP StorageWorks 4400 Scalable NAS File Service as part of its virtual solution, reports Technewsworld.

This solution will provide customers with continuous availability of business applications by virtualising the connection between servers and storage to create consolidated "shared data" architecture.

HP's StorageWorks also aims to provide a solution to server sprawl through its shared file system.
