LicenceWise, Escrow Europe (South Africa) link up to provide enhanced IT risk management solutions

Johannesburg, 04 Apr 2005

Escrow Europe (South Africa), local subsidiary of Escrow Europe, an international leader in the provision of software escrow and related services, has struck up an alliance with LicenceWise, a Gauteng-based company which specialises in managing the risks associated with the purchase of information technology (IT) solutions.

The partnership is in line with both organisations` commitment to assure business continuity through the independent, informed and accurate evaluation of computer software and related vendor licensing programmes.

LicenceWise, founded in 2001 by qualified professionals possessing extensive experience with the big four audit firms in SA, provides services and support in the area of vendor licensing, broad-based vendor technology capabilities, and electronic tools to simplify ongoing management efforts in complex IT environments.

Escrow Europe, established in 1989 as a neutral and independent escrow agent, specialises in software escrow and related services. These include copyright registration (protection of copyrights and backup of know-how), Internet technology escrow (escrow of technology driven e-commerce software), Web site escrow (indisputable registration of Web site content and design) and industrial escrow.

Dave Michie, director of LicenceWise, says the Alliance Partner relationship with Escrow Europe enables his company to add value to the service solutions offered to clients.

"We will be able to use Escrow Europe products and services as building blocks to better address the broader base of IT risk that clients are responsible for managing. This will supplement our core services and products in the arenas of IT purchase and legal risk-management.

"IT has become a core function of all businesses who strive to operate at the cutting-edge of their industry," Michie elaborates. "Reliance on this function has led many companies to invest heavily in IT, often with significant consequential business risks such as vendor or product `going concern` exposures. Managing the risks associated with the acquisition of IT requires time, independence and specific skills. Our partnership with Escrow Europe extends the range of skills we can bring to the table when advising our clients on risk management strategies."

Andrew Stekhoven, managing director of Escrow Europe (South Africa), comments: "Through the link with LicenceWise, we hope to expand our deposit and verification activities in both the short and longer term. Software escrow is coming into its own as a dependable and cost-effective business continuity tool, so there is a clear and natural synergy with LicenceWise and their risk minimisation business."
