In a move designed to address rising demand from the local consumer market, Light Edge Technology has joined forces with South Africa`s foremost e-tailer, kalahari.net, in order to open its first retail operation - online.
The company`s marketing director, David Musikanth, says: "Light Edge is an IT distributor and PC manufacturer which has traditionally only serviced the enterprise market through our extensive dealer network. Our growing brand recognition at enterprise level - especially since the introduction of our Emerald range of PCs three years ago - has, however, helped drive consumer demand as office workers started buying Light Edge products for private use. At first we simply serviced such consumers via our existing five national offices but we`ve increasingly become aware of the need for a more elegant retail solution.
"An online offering seemed ideal as our customers are typically Internet enabled as well as tech savvy and it would provide Light Edge with an instant national consumer offering. Kalahari.net was a natural choice, given their proven track record of e-tail success and consumer base of more than 180 000 customers. . The new store currently stocks the majority of Light Edge`s product lines.
Gary Hadfield, commercial manager for kalahari.net, says: "This is a true marriage of clicks and bricks and the initial indications are encouraging. Our systems integration has been seamless, the new Light Edge bar coding system is working perfectly and Light Edge order fulfillment has been without incident. Kalahari.net enters into very strict service level agreement (SLA) with all our suppliers to ensure that the 15 working days or less delivery promise is kept. Light Edge has proven its commitment to both the SLA and our customers at every opportunity since the technology shop was launched in June 2004."
Products currently available at the technology shop of kalahari.net include: Emerald PCs, Flash drives, Logitech gaming equipment, MP3 players, MSI graphic cards and other computing components and accessories.
