Light Edge to distribute Asus notebooks to SA market

Johannesburg, 02 Sep 2003

Micro Pro recently appointed Light Edge Technology as a partner in its Gold Channel Partner Program. The appointment enables Light Edge to sub-distribute Asus notebooks to the South African market. Light Edge has been supplying the local market with Emerald workstations and servers for a number of years, and the addition of Asus notebooks to the range completes its personal computer offering.

David Musikanth, director at Light Edge, says: "We have been looking to integrate a notebook into our product range for a number of months and after much research by our technical team, Asus was selected. It offers the combination of powerful technical specifications, beautiful design and a two year international warranty. The warranty was pivotal to our decision making as most products only offer one year and the user needs to pay an additional cost to get a second year. This, combined with the technical, sales and marketing support we receive from Micro Pro made it the best choice for both us and our customers."

Initially, Light Edge, which is also an Intel Premier Provider, will focus on the Asus M2N range as it is powered by Intel`s Centrino mobile technology. "The mobile segment of the PC industry is where we expect to see the most growth in the next few years. Therefore, we are concentrating on supporting Asus` Centrino powered products which enable users to take advantage of the growing number of hotspots and wireless LANs that are being built in South Africa and internationally," says Musikanth.

Shaun Barkhuizen, managing director of Micro Pro, says: "We selected Light Edge as it has a proven track record in excellent after-sales service and support which is particularly important for the notebook market." Micro Pro has found the appointment of Light Edge Technology as a Gold Partner, to be immediately effective. "Within the first day of appointment, Light Edge was already placing orders and this confirmed our belief that the company would be an excellent partner to assist us in growing Asus` market share in South Africa," concludes Barkhuizen.
